Sunset Rd. serves free breakfast and lunch to anyone who walks in, every single day, with no questions asked and no paperwork to fill out. That has always been the whole point.
More Than a Meal
The Mustard Seed Cafe started in 2013 with a clear mission: feed hungry people and care for their hearts. In that spirit, it has grown into something much bigger than a kitchen. Out back sits a 7,000-square-foot community garden, known as Amigos Garden, where the cafe grows fresh produce year-round that goes directly onto the plates inside. Alongside the harvest, the cafe runs gardening and composting education classes for children and adults, turning a meal into a door to learning about where food comes from.
For El Paso families who have walked through that door, the impact runs deep. Mother-daughter volunteers Erin and Lennon Mendoza found the cafe during a painful adoption journey. What they discovered was not just a place to help but a support system of genuine friendships built over shared work and shared meals. Now they bring the next generation along, teaching what it means to give back to a community that looks out for one another. That is the Chuco spirit showing up on a Tuesday morning.
A Gathering Place With Deep Roots
